Emily Shuster, LCSW

"As a relational and attachment-oriented therapist, I work with you to explore the many ways our connections impact life. Together, we’ll examine the roles of early caregivers, family, friends, community, social structures, and the therapeutic relationship itself."

Getting To Know Me

I support clients with mood regulation, anxiety, relationship challenges, and trauma healing. My approach includes traditional talk therapy as well as somatic practices, helping clients understand how emotions live in the body and how change can begin on a physical level. I am also expanding my expertise in somatic methods and hormonal mood issues, particularly premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

I often work with caregivers and activists who face burnout, emotional exhaustion, or disconnection between their inner lives and external responsibilities. I help clients restore energy, find balance, and align their values with their actions.

For those exploring gender and sexuality, I provide affirming, inclusive support grounded in LGBTQ and TGNC affirmative practices. I also enjoy collaborating with artists, creatives, and those curious about existential or spiritual themes.

Together, we can explore “big picture” questions about life and purpose while addressing the day-to-day challenges that cause distress.

By balancing these "zoomed out" and "zoomed in" perspectives, we can help you build a life that feels both meaningful and manageable.

Emily's Approach

My approach also incorporates systems and justice-oriented perspectives, acknowledging how larger institutions and cultural forces—such as systemic oppression, inequality, and trauma—influence our experiences. With an intersectional lens, I consider how overlapping identities and contexts shape who we are. I prioritize humility and curiosity in exploring both our differences and commonalities, guided by the belief that transforming ourselves can transform the world around us.
